2016 is officially among us, and we hope that everyone has had a great start to it! A new year means new opportunities, new people, and of course new resolutions. Do you want to keep your house looking tidier and well kept? Then check out these awesome cleaning tips and tricks with vinegar! We all know vinegar for its uses in pickling food and science experiments (just add baking soda), but who would have thought that such a common household item could be so useful in cleaning?

Living Room

Mix equal parts white vinegar and hot tap water to make a hard-working, stain-removing cleaner. Dip an old sock or rag into the mixture and wipe down those windows, tables, and couches for a clean finish.

Sink

Use the same ½ vinegar ½ hot water concoctions to wipe down your countertops and sinks. Also, make vinegar-water ice cubes with the same ratio to create “fresh-bombs” for your garbage disposal. This will get rid of foul odor from the sink.

Microwave

Have a nasty microwave interior covered with stains? Clean it off the easy way and give it the steam treatment. Simply microwave equal parts vinegar and water for four minutes. Then carefully remove the hot bowl and wipe off the insides with a microfiber cloth. The steam created will melt any stains and make the cleaning easier than ever.

Bathroom

Make a tough tub and tile cleaner by mixing ½ cup of warm vinegar, ½ cup of dish soap, and 4 teaspoons of baking soda. Spread onto surface and let it sit for 30 minutes. It will eat the grime and scum right off.

Garden/ Patio

Make a homemade bug spray by mixing equal parts water, vinegar, and liquid dish soap into a spray bottle. You can make this mixture in a small bowl and put it next to your sink to get rid of fruit flies as well.

While it certainly makes you more comfortable, you’re creating opposing forces that could worsen any damage your windshield has.

This is the simplest method of cleaning your windows. You only need five basic tools: a bucket of water, a sponge, a detergent, a squeegee, and a chamois/dry cloth.

Fill your bucket with warm water and add a small amount of a detergent (such as Windex)

Now soak your sponge and clean your window frames starting from the top
Soak your sponge in the bucket of soap water and start cleaning your windows either by:
1. Starting on the upper-left side of the windows and make an S-shape downwards until you reach the bottom corner of the window
2. Starting on the upper-left corner and drag the sponge straight down

Use your squeegee and start cleaning your windows starting from the top going straight down. Leave about an inch of room at the top so you can start each stroke from a dry area.
1. Use your chamois/cloth to dry any excess water after each stroke. If not, you will have visible white lines on your windows

Create a Chalkboard

Need a crafty way to remind yourself to pick up the dog from the groomers or make it to a meeting on time? Take those old windows, coat the glass in a basic chalkboard spray paint that you can find in the paint aisle at Lowes or Home Depot, and you have your very own custom chalkboard.

Design a Mosaic Artwork

Cover an old window with colored glass pebbles or glass remains (sea glass or wine bottle glass work great) to create a DIY mosaic artwork. Create a design or a random display of colors and hang it either inside or outside. Make sure to hang it in an area that receives ample sunlight to show off those beautiful colors.

Custom Picture Frame

Fill those empty widows with pictures of your family, friends or business retreat, and refurbish the outer windowpane into an antique, elegant picture frame. You can diversify your window-picture frames by doing a series of little pictures or by using a large print to cover the entire window.
